The number of dwellings in the Republic of Serbia according to occupant density, ownership and occupancy status

The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia publishes the final results of the 2022 Census of Population, Households and Dwellings on the number of dwellings in the Republic of Serbia according to occupant density, ownership and occupancy status, by municipalities and cities.

Occupant density in the book is presented in two ways, as the useful floor space of dwelling per occupant and as the number of rooms per occupant. The results of the Census show that the dwellings from 20 m2 to 30 m2 per occupant and those that have, on average, 1 to 1.25 rooms per occupant are the most numerous in the Republic of Serbia.

The results of the 2022 Census indicate that the largest number of dwellings is privately owned. There are in total 3 536 885 enumerated dwellings in private ownership, accounting for 97.9% оf the total number of dwellings. There are 33 724 dwellings being other than in private ownership, less than 1% of the total housing stock. There are 2 292 325 enumerated dwellings (or 87.3% of the total number of occupied dwellings) in which at least one of the households members is the owner, while 325 743 (or 12.4%) are used by tenants, subtenants or relatives.
