Migrations
The book “Migrations” provides the final results of the 2022 Census of Population, Households and Dwellings on the main migratory characteristics of the population of the Republic of Serbia, by municipalities and cities.
The book contains data on the number of the autochthonous and migrant population, place of birth and citizenship. As for the migrant population, data on the territory from which people migrated, period of migration and sex are provided.
Аutochthonous and migrant population
The contingent of autochthonous population is composed of persons who have been living continuously in the same settlement since birth.
Migrant population comprises persons who have not been living in the place of the enumeration since birth, i.e. persons who previously resided in another place in the country or abroad for at least one year.
The results of the 2022 Census indicate that 53.48% of the population is autochthonous, while 46.52% migrated to the census place.

Migrant population by sex and territory of migration
Observed by sex, there are much more women than men among the migrant population (60% of women and 40% of men). Most of men and women migrated to the place of enumeration from some other municipality on the territory of the Republic of Serbia (more than 50%). The largest differences by sex and territory of migration are noticeable among migrated persons from another settlement on the territory of the same municipality. Namely, every fourth woman migrated to the place of enumeration from another settlement in the same municipality, while every fifth man migrated from one to another settlement within the same municipality.
Population by place of birth and citizenship
The results of the 2022 Census indicate that 90% of the population was born on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. About 10% was born abroad, of which 88% on the territory of some of the former SFRY republics, and 12% abroad.
The citizenship of the Republic of Serbia is hold by 99.5% of population (93.5% hold only the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia, while about 6% hold dual citizenship - beside the citizenship of the Republic of Serbia also that of another country), About 0.5% of population hold only the citizenship of another country, while 0.01% are without citizenship.
